hello one and all!!! hope all is well. just an update on ian. as most of you know - September was not his month!!! through some big sores on his foot (on his weak spot from surgery) we think that's how he contracted impetigo...at the same time he had an eye cold and his ears rupture...within 2 weeks we hit a 24 hour stretch where he had seizures. westlock hospital sent us to stollery where we spent some time...saw a neurologist. since then he had an eeg, met the neurologist again about results...and then about 2 weeks later on a sunday (10 days ago) we heard him crying downstairs in the basement. from that moment he hasn't been able to walk...he was in shock for a while and was shaking...everytime we tried to stand him up the shaking became worse. we went for xrays twice - no broken bones or fractures...we saw his surgeon today at the stollery - he immediately sent us to the glenrose where his physiatrist is. there we had some further nerve testing. his nerves are good....his bones are good. the physiatrist believes he somehow did some really deep tissue damage...possibly on the bone. that is why we don't see any bruises, but ian was in a lot of pain at first....so. good news - is that after all these tests there is no underlying genetic problem...with all of his quirky things they have been really concerned about some serious underlying problems...but with a clear eeg and good nerve test...well, that is a relief and a good sign. something is still going on - the sleep doctor talks about problems with the autonomic system - the regulating system of the body. we shall see...
we have to keep pushing him to try to walk...if he isn't within 10 days we have the physiatrist's direct line to contact him! but kev and I have been pushing him constantly and there has been some signs of progress in the last day or two. so we're supposed to keep pushing him!!!! tomorrow we're back to the stollery again, to update the pediatrician on everything - between the neurologist, his surgeon, his pediatrician and physiatrist - we all have to get caught up to speed. the ped's the only one kind of out of the loop.
so. yay. I have a bunch of fun picts to post...soon!!! just wanted to let every know that there is so much to be thankful for!!! :) hope all is well for you!
